Global Scientific Director - WebMD - Paris


Job Description

Overview:
Based in Europe, the WebMD Global Scientific Director is responsible for developing medical education content (ie, CPD/EACCME/EUMS), for a professional audience, that will be published on the Medscape.org and theheart.org sites.  Target therapeutic areas will include, but are not limited to, Oncology, Diabetes/Endocrinology and Cardiology.  
S/he will report to the WebMD Editorial Team Lead based in Montreal and work primarily on educational content targeted to an International audience.  Working closely with the European teams, this person must be fluent in both English and French.
Responsibilities:
Developing and maintaining knowledge of assigned scientific field(s), including understanding important clinical issues and industry trends.
Quickly acquiring knowledge on unfamiliar topics/therapeutic areas as assigned.
Keeping up to date regarding the rules and regulations that govern the creation of educationally certified activities.
Driving the program content development. This entails working closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop appropriate, high-quality content within set timelines. 
Planning, coordinating the development, editing, and reviewing all clinical content assigned;
Elaborating program-specific discussion guides and other materials that support the pre-determined learning objectives;
Leading teleconferences with faculty and other staff members to help decipher content;
Creating/completing slides, storyboards, supporting written materials, and other materials;
Partaking in the online program review/build by working with internal teams such as CME department, copyedit/QA, media, and production. 
Developing, maintaining and leveraging existing relationships with nationally and internationally recognized thought-leaders and other knowledge experts within the medical/healthcare communities.
Working closely with the faculty thought leaders to develop both on-line and off-line educational activities, providing the appropriate level of guidance to accomplish defined educational goals, including setting and meeting deadline expectations, problem solving and ensuring the highest standards of quality. This includes both text-based and multimedia activities.
Attending studio recordings at various international conferences for video-multimedia programs will be required in some cases. The onsite commitment will be comprised of keeping abreast of late-breaking clinical trial data presentations and attending the recording per se in order to help guide the faculty in delivering the agreed upon program content and format.
Ensuring strategic value by identifying practice gaps in clinical medicine/healthcare systems and communicating same to internal stakeholders to aid in developing new business opportunities.
Reviewing/editing high quality grant submissions.

Desired Skills & Experience

Qualifications:
The Scientific Director must have sufficient background in specific scientific/medical fields to be conversant with key/emerging issues related to prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of medical topics; be familiar with key researchers, treaters, funders and community groups in the field; understand the science/medicine of particular therapeutic areas to the degree required for effective communication with nationally and internationally recognized thought leaders in those areas. The position requires an advanced degree (MD, RN, NP, PA, PhD, PharmD) in a medical or science-related specialty, although years of experience in the medical education field may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree; substantial knowledge of clinical medicine is helpful, with specialized experience in assigned therapeutic areas; experience in content development, clinical writing and editing;
Possess excellent editorial (editing and writing) skills;
Versatility and ability to change topics and priorities rapidly;
A true love of multitasking in order to manage multiple moving parts and projects simultaneously;
Ability to take initiative, work independently, and follow through in a highly deadline-driven environment;
Ability to work with team members abroad and across various time zones;
Strong interpersonal skills;
Well-versed in established professional medical editorial process and be familiar with CME/CE/CPD standards and process;
3-8 years related work experience preferably in a large medical education and/or medical communications company, and/or professional medical publisher, although will consider similar experience within an  academic institution or medical society;
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and team-building skills;
Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
Knowledge of internet technologies with previous online experience a plus;
Fluent in English and French (verbal and written);
Candidate must be willing to travel internationally (Time for required travel is approx 30%)
