Analytical Director, Mid Market Evaluation – Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services
Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services are currently looking to recruit two Senior Analysts having analytical responsibility for a new product ‘Mid-Market Evaluation’ in Europe (covering companies with Revenues below EURO 1.5bn and Debt below EURO 500mn).

Private placements and direct lending from non-traditional sources continue to increase in Europe against a backdrop of bank deleveraging, independent analysis provides a unique and informed perspective.



Mid-Market Evaluation is an independent opinion of mid-sized companies’ creditworthiness from Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services. The product is intended to help investors better navigate this complex and relatively opaque market, provide intermediaries with an additional tool to help service their clients, and help companies access alternative sources of funding, through increased transparency.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

We are looking for two senior analysts which primary responsibility will be to analyze mid-market companies and assign Mid-Market Evaluations in at least two of the following countries: France, the UK and Germany. These analysts will be the face of Standard & Poor’s for the analytical part of this new product in their respective countries. Their role will entail performing an excellent analytical work, in application of all relevant criteria and policies, but as well significant interaction with participants in this market, representation of Standard & Poor’s in different forums, and robust client relationship management. In the ramp-up phase for this new product, these analysts will work in close collaboration with the rest of the corporate analytical team and will cover traditional corporate analytical activities for part of their time.

Responsibilities:

The senior analyst will assign Mid-Market Evaluations, including in complex cases, and will serve as a member of the approval process for all Mid-Market Evaluations in Europe. During the ramp-up phase for this new product, the senior analyst will use part of his/her time to perform the standard analytical responsibilities for a senior analyst in the corporate team.
He/she must demonstrate analytical excellence and thought leadership to internal and external audiences and maintain and enhance the quality and timeliness of our analysis.
The senior analyst will be the analytical liaison for the client, assessing, answering and resolving client’s needs that do not involve fee discussions, negotiations, or arrangements.
He/she will manage a junior analyst who will be responsible for participating in on-site reviews, preparing, and presenting findings for the assignment of the mid-market credit evaluation.
The senior analyst will assure that the analytical guidelines, procedures and policies established for mid-market credit evaluations are adhered to by the analytical staff.
He/she must develop effective relationships with issuers, intermediaries and investors in this market. He/ she will represent Standard & Poor’s at meetings and seminars on analytical matters.
He/she will participate in determining department strategy and priorities. He/she will aid in identifying market trends, client development, in collaboration with the mid-market product manager, as well as identify criteria development needs and process improvement.
The incumbent will coordinate with analysts, managers, and staff at all levels of the organization to ensure smooth and efficient analytical work process/procedures
As the mid-market analytical team expands, he/she will train others within group on analytical matters and help them resolve difficult day-to-day situations

Qualifications

Advanced degree (such as MBA, CFA or similar qualification) with 7-10 years’ experience in the financial services industry. Significant direct experience in the required asset class may replace educational requirements.
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
Regular mobility required for onsite visit with clients.
Ability to undertake rigorous analytical work and be proficient at writing analytical reports.
Strong understanding of financial markets and business environment including implications for S&P’s analytical products and services. Experience in the mid-market segment would be a strong advantage.
Demonstrated commitment to customer service
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, global, and multi-cultural environment.
The incumbent must display high energy levels/”can do” attitude
Bilingual (if possible bi-cultural) in two of the three following languages: English, French, German. Italian or Spanish knowledge would be a strength.
